Jayanthi is a 13-year-old daughter of a farmer father and a homemaker mother. She wants to join the police force when she completes her academics. “When I was 7 years old, my friends and I were playing cops and robbers during the school lunch break and I thought being a cop was really cool. So whenever my teachers asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said a police officer,” she says.
According to her, every country has its own rules and regulations and these rules are made to maintain harmony in the country. Sometimes people neglect the rule and do some unwanted things and others get disturbed. So, to have an eye on the society, the government made police. Police are the government bodies that maintain peace in society. They help people in different ways and never let people face any difficulty.
She adds: “A police officer has many responsibilities, one side they have to maintain peace in the society and the other side, they also have to catch the criminals. If the crime rate increases in a particular area, then they have to answer the higher authorities. Police are not those who remain in a police station and write your report. They also have to solve many cases and some unsolved murder mysteries.”
The challenges involved in the job inspire Jayanthi to follow her dreams of becoming police personnel. Jayanthi says that the mid-day meals served in school helps her stay focused during class hours and do well in academics. Her favourite items in the menu are dal and chawal.
Jayanthi is a 13-year-old beneficiary of the government’s Mid-Day Meal Programme implemented by The Akshaya Patra Foundation that serves more than 2 million children across the country every school day.
